Plan Structure
The Trails ATL Plan is:
Sponsored by the Dept. of Parks and Recreation as part of the Activate ATL Strategic Plan.
Inspired by recent planning efforts from the Atlanta BeltLine and MARTA, as well as from the City Departments of Transportation, Planning, Watershed Management, and Public Works.
Informed by the needs of Atlanta Public Schools, the Atlanta Police Department, the Atlanta Housing Authority and Invest Atlanta.
Guided by environmental, social advocacy, higher education, and transportation organizations.
Organized by the PATH Foundation.
Created with and for YOU!
The Trails ATL Plan will:
Describe existing conditions as well as upcoming trail-related projects and plans from around the city.
Learn from the community where you want trails to go and the type of trails you want.
Answer your trail-related questions and address your trail-related concerns.
Propose concept-level trail alignments.
Propose network branding and design standards.
Prioritize proposed trail alignments based on the community’s stated needs and preferences.
Lay out a 10-year implementation plan with estimated costs and funding strategies.
Upon Trails ATL Plan Adoption:
Establish a city-sponsored trails implementation strategy and oversight committee.
Prepare a detailed implementation plan.
Strategically plan the funding for prioritized trails to wisely leverage local funds and state/federal funds.
Create a project conveyor belt where there is always a project in one phase of implementation: design, permitting, construction.
